Creating Confident Learners For Life

EMA PROVIDER
Who We Are

Welcome to Tutoring Club of Hodges! We serve students of all backgrounds and academic abilities, pre-K through 12th grade! Our award-winning TC curriculum provides the resources and opportunity for every student to become a confident, self-motivated learner for life.

What We Do

We teach students how to learn.

At Tutoring Club of Hodges, we believe that educators are mentors. Our team works closely with students to get to know them on a personal level because we understand that there is much more to academic performance and success than what happens inside the classroom. Individualized support is key, which is why we create a customized game plan for each and every student we encounter. Our team provides tutoring year-round in all high school subjects, SAT/ACT test prep, and more, as well as guidance in navigating the college applications process. Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, Statistics, Honors and AP English, and AP US History are just a few of our specialties.

Why We Do It

We are invested in each student’s success.

For us, tutoring is personal. We are deeply committed to long-term academic success that builds lasting confidence and brings out the best in every student. When we hear that a student has moved up from C’s to A’s, or that reading has become a joy instead of a chore, we know that our services are changing lives. All of us at Tutoring Club of Hodges are proud of the many thousands of students who have passed through our center and we look forward to working with those students who meet our team for the very first time this upcoming year.

What Makes Us a Great Choice

We are a one-stop solution.

Our award-winning approach gives us the ability and expertise to assist students of all ages and abilities. From the very beginnings of math and reading to AP high school courses and college admissions, we provide students with the dedicated support that they need throughout their academic career. Driven To Help Your Student Succeed

Michele Tanner

Academic Director

A proud Jacksonville native, Michele Tanner has dedicated her career to helping students discover their potential and build lasting confidence in the classroom. As the owner and enrollment director of Tutoring Club Hodges, she brings more than a decade of hands-on teaching experience and a genuine passion for individualized education to every family she serves.

Michele holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of North Florida and a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Southern California’s prestigious Rossier School of Education. A Florida-certified teacher, she carries certifications in Elementary Education, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), and Mathematics for grades 5–9.

Her teaching career has spanned public, charter, private, and home school environments — giving her a uniquely broad perspective on the way children learn. Michele’s true passion has always been upper elementary and middle school math, where she excels at making abstract concepts click for students who once thought they “just weren’t math people.”

Michele’s commitment to education is deeply personal. She and her husband Robert — happily married for 21 years — are the proud parents of Jacob (20) and Abby (17), and she has navigated the full spectrum of the schooling journey as a parent herself. When she’s not working with students and families, you’ll find the Tanners traveling, out on the golf course, or exploring Jacksonville’s restaurant scene in search of their next favorite dish.

Michele founded Tutoring Club Hodges with a simple belief: every child deserves instruction that meets them where they are. She looks forward to partnering with your family to help your student thrive.

Lexie

Academic Director

Alexis Jones is the Academic Director at Tutoring Club’s Hodges location and a familiar, welcoming face to every student who walks through the door. With six years of tutoring experience  beginning as an assistant and backup tutor before growing into her leadership role — Alexis brings both expertise and heart to her work with elementary, middle, and high school students in math, reading, and SAT reading preparation.

As Academic Director, Alexis oversees day-to-day operations, conducts assessment tests for all new students, and ensures every family feels supported from the moment they arrive. She believes true learning goes beyond memorization, meeting each student where they are and creating a safe, encouraging environment where asking questions and making mistakes are welcomed as part of the process.

One of Alexis’s most meaningful experiences involved a student who arrived feeling frustrated and defeated. Through patience and flexible teaching strategies, she helped that student shift from discouraged to genuinely proud — a transformation that reflects her approach with every learner she serves.

Alexis holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Science with a concentration in Public Health from the University of North Florida. Outside of Tutoring Club, she enjoys spending time with her husband Preston and her dog Barrett, singing, exploring the outdoors, and traveling.

Katie

Tutor

Katie Gonzalez is a dedicated tutor with 20 years of experience helping elementary, middle, and high school students build confidence and achieve success in math, reading, reading comprehension, and science.

Katie believes that true tutoring goes beyond mastering the material. Her goal is to foster a genuine love of learning in every student she works with, helping them develop the skills and mindset to thrive long after their sessions end. Her warm, encouraging approach gives students the confidence to tackle even their most challenging subjects.

One of Katie’s most memorable success stories involved a full-time competitive gymnast whom she supported through middle and high school. Through their years of work together, the student earned a full scholarship to the University of Connecticut and has since gone on to pursue a master’s degree — a testament to what dedicated support can make possible.

Katie holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and is a Florida Certified Educator in Math (K–12) and Science (grades 5–9). Outside of tutoring, she loves hiking, camping, and exploring the outdoors.

Stefi

Tutor

Stefi Alvarez is a dedicated tutor specializing in Reading, Writing, and Spanish for elementary, middle, and high school students. Bilingual in English and Spanish, Stefi brings a unique and inclusive perspective to every session, making her an especially valuable resource for diverse learners across all grade levels.

Stefi believes that building genuine relationships with students is the foundation of effective learning. She focuses on growing each student’s confidence alongside their skills, helping them organize their thoughts through structured outlines and expanding their vocabulary with intentional word choice. Her passion for making the writing process approachable and enjoyable shines through in every lesson.

One of her most memorable moments came while working with a five-year-old Spanish-speaking student. When the child discovered Stefi spoke Spanish, her face lit up instantly — and that shared connection became the bridge to remarkable growth in the girl’s English reading and writing skills.

Stefi holds a Bachelor’s in English with a Creative Writing concentration from Flagler College and a Writing Certificate from UCLA Extension. She was named a Semifinalist for the Allegra Johnson Writing Prize from UCLA. Outside of tutoring, Stefi enjoys reading, writing, baking, volunteering, and exploring the outdoors on road trips.

Amaya

Tutor

Amaya Moats is a dedicated tutor specializing in Math, Reading, SAT prep, and Sciences — including Biology and Chemistry — for elementary, middle, and high school students. With two years of tutoring experience, she brings both academic expertise and genuine enthusiasm to every session.

Amaya believes that feeling understood is the foundation of learning. She takes time to truly get to know each student as an individual, building connections through shared interests — whether that’s video games, Pokémon cards, or Sanrio characters. By meeting students where they are, she creates a comfortable, encouraging environment where curiosity and confidence can flourish.

Her approach yields real results. One of her proudest moments was learning that a student she worked with earned a 4 on her AP Biology exam — a remarkable achievement for someone who had once been struggling. Watching that student go from discouraged to thriving made the work especially meaningful.

Amaya is currently completing her Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of North Florida. Outside of tutoring, she loves playing video games and visiting theme parks.

Sharon

Tutor

Sharon Sutherland is a dedicated tutor specializing in beginning reading, writing, and math for elementary through middle school students. With over a decade of classroom experience — including 12 years teaching VPK and hands-on training in both kindergarten and first-grade classrooms — Sharon brings a deep understanding of how young learners grow and thrive.

Sharon believes every child deserves focused, individual attention. What she loves most about tutoring is the ability to work closely with small groups of students, giving each child the personalized support that a busy classroom often can’t provide. She has a natural gift for seeing past a child’s resistance and finding the approach that unlocks their confidence.

One of her early students came in frustrated, struggling with both reading and math, and on the verge of giving up. Through consistent encouragement and celebrating every small win, the student’s mindset transformed — eventually earning a 100 on a math exam and eagerly picking up books on her own, now performing above grade level.

Sharon holds a degree in Criminal Justice and a Lead Teacher certification from the State of Florida. Outside of tutoring, she loves exploring the world with her family and animals, and has a true passion for baking and cooking.

What parents and students are saying

I could not express how appreciative I am for all the teachers at Tutoring Club. Everyone is very good at teaching and my daughter has grown to love to learn. The facility is very clean. Everyone is nice and helpful. My daughter’s grades have all gone up. She has attended Tutoring Club for 6 months. She just finished her MAP testing and is now in the 90th percentile across the national board. Thank you everyone at Tutoring Club. I know we will continue to use you for help with homework and supplemental learning.
W.E.
Tutoring Club has helped my daughter so much! She struggled just to get to 1st grade and it's so exciting to finally see her thrive and improve. Tutoring Club gave her the confidence boost she needed where I, school, and homework wasn't enough. Now she's interested in learning and reading on her own. I just wish I had enrolled her sooner!

My daughter has been attending Tutoring Club for over two years now. They are always attentive, flexible with our schedule, and positive. With the weekly help and encouragement of the tutors, she has grown in confidence, learned time management and study skills, and has brought all her grades up. She now calls Tutoring Club her second family because she's so comfortable and feels genuinely cared for there. Thanks so much!
J.L.
My experience at Tutoring Club was great! They really helped me boost my SAT score and provided me with guidance for my college application process.
