Winter 2021
Happy Holidays!
Our community’s diversity is one of the many things that we cherish about working in Northern Virginia—serving students of all backgrounds has taught us how to accommodate the various and unique needs of each and every person who passes through our halls. Getting to know each family personally, we have become integrated within this tight-knit community, whose trust and support allow us to enhance the learning experience of its students.
We want to take this opportunity to wish our students and families of all backgrounds, nationalities, and faiths a very happy holiday season.
✨Hanukkah (Jewish) – November 18-December 6
✨Bodhi Day (Buddhist) – December 8
✨Pancha Ganapati (Hindu) December 21-25
✨Christmas (Christian) – December 25
✨Kwanzaa (African American) – December 26-January 1
Elf on the Shelf
We let down our guard and a friendly elf snuck back into our yard (okay, into our center but that doesn’t really rhyme!)!
He’ll be keeping an eye on all the students he sees, to report back to their parents so behave yourselves, please!
He’s checking to see if you’ve been naughty or nice, and this year you named him Larry not Criddle or Dice.
Each time you arrive to Tutoring Club, try to spy from what hiding space he’ll be keeping an eye on.
Larry will watch to see if you follow and obey the rules and things your tutors say!
He’ll gather the info and make his reports, then send it each night to your parents to sort.
Make sure you follow us on social media to see all the mischief he’ll get into during December! #ElfOnTheShelfTCM
Holiday Rewind!
Spooky Season Returns to TCM!
We were THRILLED this year to bring back our Halloween costume F-U-N! We saw a ton of spooky, silly, and creative costumes from both our students and tutors. Thank you to everyone who participated! Students that did earned free tokens PLUS bragging rights for winning titles like Most Original, Funniest, Cutest, Scariest, and Overall Best Costume!
Grateful for Turkey Day!
Thanksgiving is always such a great reminder that there is so much to be thankful for! This year, we were curious about what made our students and staff most excited to give thanks and we got some really heartwarming responses. We also asked our kiddos to ‘disguise the turkey’…check out our festive board!!
Has Your Student Started Thinking About the SAT/ACT?
It’s never too late, or too early, to sign your student up for college entrance exams and get them started with test prep. There are many factors that determine when it is “best” to take the ACT/SAT for each student. While some advanced students might opt to take it in the Fall/Winter to free up valuable time in the spring for AP and IB exams, others might find they need to get through more of the Junior Year coursework in order to perform at their best and schedule a Spring exam. Regardless of when your student takes the exam, it is important to choose a date that allows for back-to-back testing.

Not sure where to begin in terms of test prep? Sign your student up for a Practice Test with Tutoring Club of McLean! We offer low-stress options that your student can take from home or in our center. From there, we will come up with a custom plan that will get them feeling confident and prepared for the real thing!
Once we have set a schedule for your student, it is super important to stick with it. At this time of year, it is difficult to schedule makeup sessions, as we try our best to match students with the same tutor for each session.
Think of it as you would a sports schedule: without consistency, skills are lost.
Please note that there will be no additional SAT test dates for the 2020-2021 school year. There is, however, one final test date for the ACT ON July 17, 2021. The deadline to register is June 18 and a late fee is required should you register between June 19 and 25.
