The Effects of Summer Learning Loss on Your Student
- Education
Let’s face it—schools and the way kids are taught has changed…A LOT. New methodologies have made it difficult for teachers and parents alike to teach new concepts to students. That’s where we come in—our programs teach concepts in a way that your student can easily understand and take to the classroom.
At this age, readers are expected to extract and analyze information. Our expert tutors work with students on utilizing root words, context clues, and supporting details to deepen their understanding of the texts.
Beginning with basics like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, students first master foundational math principles and develop number sense—an understanding of place value, rounding, and number patterns. We then introduce more advanced concepts like fractions and decimals, both of which become focal points in future math courses.
TC Math provides early learners the necessary building blocks to become confident in math. Students first learn to recognize numbers from 0-100 before progressing to basic addition and subtraction. Key to students’ success is then developing an understanding of the properties of these numbers and how they work with one another. With our tutors’ hands-on approach, TC Math will give your child an edge in math and newfound confidence.
When entering the latter half of elementary school, students undergo a rapid transition away from the foundations of reading and are required to form a deeper understanding of texts. We know – this transition can become overwhelming for many students. Whether you’re looking for your students to get caught up or to get ahead, our awesome tutors help shed away any anxieties and work on building skills that create confident readers.
Lack of vocabulary directly affects your student’s ability to understand their reading materials and can hurt their overall comprehension. We pinpoint your student’s vocabulary and comprehension levels before creating an entirely individualized lesson plan. Over the course of our program, students will be able to develop strengthened vocabulary, visualize what they are reading, recall information, and form conclusions. With these skills under their belts, students will be fully prepared for future grade levels, experience a heightened sense of self-esteem, and grow into successful lifelong readers!
For elementary schoolers, TC Writing is designed to provide a clear and strong foundation for your young writer. Through explicit instruction, students master standard English conventions by breaking down the (somewhat confusing!) English language into manageable rules and procedures. As they demonstrate independent mastery of a concept, students are challenged to implement it in their own writing before moving on to a new skill.
As students begin to develop a written ‘voice’, they are then introduced to the core components of the writing process, like brainstorming, organizing, drafting, revising, and proofreading. Our tutors offer constructive feedback and hone in on areas of improvement to encourage students to become better communicators.
The dense workloads and ever-changing schedules of pre-teen and teenage students can be overwhelming. By acting as an intermediary between parent and student, we eliminate the late nights and unwanted stress that comes with more challenging homework assignments and more demanding examinations. Beyond the fine details, we impart the traits of successful high school students in students of all ages; plain and simple, we do this so students do not fear or struggle with the transitions from elementary school to middle school, middle school to high school, or high school to college.
At higher levels we emphasize the importance of study skills, imparting habits such as organization, prioritizing, note taking, using a planner, and more.
